Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance and by Maryland's accessibility rules for the public sector, and it is the one we build our clients' sites to as well.
What we have done
- Every image that carries meaning has a text description; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Every page has one main heading and a logical heading order.
- Links and buttons that are only an icon have a spoken label.
- Contact forms have labelled fields and readable error messages, and the anti-bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) works without a visual puzzle.
- Text and background colors are chosen for contrast, and the site can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Nothing flashes, and video does not play sound until you start it.
Known limitations
- The map on the home and contact pages is provided by Google Maps; its controls follow Google's accessibility, not ours. The address is written out as text next to it.
- Some portfolio pages show client artwork with text baked into the image. Where that text matters, it is repeated on the page.
- Videos embedded from Vimeo depend on the captions the creator provided.
